According to the IRS, 120 million stimulus payments have been made to Americans out of an expected 170 million. And that’s all I’m going to say about that, I don’t need to ramble about it, right?
Moving on, and this next thing is very important to know about it and it’s also very scary, look out for mail thieves because they’re out there, I’m going to hop behind my computer and show you a criminal complaint filed this week in federal court in Brooklyn against a man who was stealing stimulus checks over $12,000 worth according to some reports.
Next thing: anecdotally I have heard that if you’re having problems with the Get My Payment tool not being able to verify your information, and you think you might have to do with your address, try putting your address into the tool in all caps, I have heard stories of this working, I can’t verify this myself, but that’s the word on the street.
Next thing: IRS has updated its guidance for those with negative adjusted gross income to use the Get My Payment Tool.
Those with negative AGI, negative Adjusted Gross Income should input the amount without the minus or the parentheses.
So if your adjusted gross income for 2019 that you’re inputting into the Get My Payment tool is negative 2,492, just input 2,492 into the Get My Payment Tool.
And finally, the IRS is screwing things up again, apparently they’re sending stimulus checks not only to dead people but also to foreign workers in other countries, yes, it’s true, college-age workers who were in the U.S. in the past two years, some of whom are now in their home countries, are waking up to an extra $1,200 in their bank accounts.
Probably because these individuals who were in the U.S. on F-1 student visas improperly used TurboTax to file their tax returns, and of course as a result because IRS loves tax returns, they sent them stimulus checks last month while many of you citizens are still waiting for yours.
Also, Puerto Ricans are apparently not getting their stimulus checks, and for those of you who don’t know, Puerto Rico is part of the United States, and Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens, but Puerto Rico has its own treasury secretary, who has submitted her plan to distribute stimulus funds to Puerto Ricans, but apparently the IRS has not yet approved the plan, hence delaying the stimulus from going out to the people of Puerto Rico.
This is all to say, once again, that you are not alone as you wait for your stimulus.
