Republicans have released their stimulus bill.
A brief overview about the two things I know many of you are very interested in, namely stimulus checks and unemployment.
Stimulus Checks
In terms of stimulus checks, the HEALS Act, the republicans are proposing another round of $1200 checks with $500 per dependent.
However, this time around, Republicans are proposing that all dependents be eligible for the $500 not just dependent children under the age of 17. The income threshold when the phase out begins for the stimulus payment is 75,000 for single, 150,000 for married same as last time.
Those in prison are specifically excluded from stimulus checks according to the Republican bill.
Unemployment
In terms of unemployment, Republicans proposed the supercharged unemployment benefits go down from $600 a week to $200 a week through the end of September.
Beginning in October, they’re proposing to have the weekly state unemployment benefits, federally supercharged unemployment benefits tied to the individual’s prior wages, with the goal being that combined federal and state unemployment benefits, the normal state employee benefits plus a supercharged federally funded unemployment benefits equal in total 70% of the individual’s prior wage, capped at $500 per week.
