Feds Still ILLEGALLY GARNISHING WAGES, Betsy DeVos Shady AF

So I saw something today, and it really just pisses me off, it pisses me right off, I was having a great Friday afternoon with the family, and I wasn’t planning on making a video about this today, but this just makes me so angry, I just had to do it.

And I don’t usually ask for this, but please share this video because people need to know what’s going on.

I’m going to tell you in this video about Betsy DeVos, the billionaire Secretary of Education married to the former CEO of Amway, I’m going to show you something she said, or rather something she didn’t say, and I think it’s scandalous, but you can be the judge of that.

I’m going to tell you about how the feds are still garnishing, for student loan purposes, the wages of Elizabeth Barber, a 59-year-old home health aide from New York, her job is to assist those with cerebral palsy in their home, showering them, feeding them, dressing them, helping them go to the bathroom — her day sounds a lot more difficult than mine — and she makes $12.89 an hour.

In 2019, she made $20,000 total.

And the feds are still illegally taking her money, I’m going to walk you through the class action lawsuit later, but let’s give some context first.

So when the CARES Act first came out I made the video about what it does for student loan borrowers, and I also created a video yesterday on what the HEROES Act proposes to do for student loan borrowers, and a lot of the HEROES Act’s framework, apart from the $10,000 forgiveness, but other than that, a lot of the framework for student loan borrowers is based on the CARES Act, which passed at the end of March, as we all know.

And the CARES Act made it the law of the land for certain federal student loan borrowers, namely those with Direct Loans and FFEL Loans held by the Department of Education, to not have to make payments through September 30 of this year.

The CARES Act also made it the law of the land for the Department of Education to stop garnishing wages of certain federal student loan borrowers until September 30.

The day Trump signed the CARES Act, March 27, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos made remarks at the White House Coronavirus Task Force Press Briefing.

Now, a version of her remarks, I assume these are the prepared remarks, appears on the Department of Education website, see look, “Remarks by Secretary DeVos at the White House Coronavirus Task Force Press Briefing March 27, 2020”, the link to her making her remarks is the in the description to this video.

DeVos seems to follow these prepared remarks closely, but she completely omits an entire paragraph at the end, and this is an important paragraph that’s relevant to what I’m telling you today, and I think this is a bit scandalous, but you tell me what you think.

Listen to this:

Did you see what she conveniently choose to not read?

She completely ignored, she did not read this paragraph right here: “Those who are, or become, delinquent on their payments as a result of the National Emergency will receive an automatic suspension of payments, without having to request it. Additionally, we’ve stopped federal wage garnishments altogether for students and families in default. And I have asked private collection agencies that contract with the Department to stop all collections correspondence including phone calls, letters, and emails.”

What! Why didn’t you read that part, Betsy? Why didn’t you want to say it, why didn’t you want to read it? It’s in the law. You read almost everything else in these prepared remarks. Is something going on here? Let me know in the comments if that just rubs you the wrong way like it rubs me the wrong way.

Now I’m going to hop behind my laptop and show you the lawsuit, this is a class action lawsuit, and the lead plaintiff is the woman I told you about previously, Elizabeth Barber, who makes $12.89 an hour and is still having her wages garnished for federal student loans.

Doesn’t that just make your blood boil?

Here’s a woman on her last dime getting completely screwed over illegally by the CARES Act.

And you got to admit it’s pretty suspicious that Betsy DeVos completely skipped over the paragraph about stopping wage garnishments in her speech at the White House Coronavirus Task Force Press Briefing, right?

So please share this, tell your friends, we have to expose stuff like this, because it’s just not right.
