ANONYMOUS Republican Senator Questions the GOP Party Line Regarding New Stimulus

Republican Senator Hate HEROES Act?

If you’d rather watch than read, check out the YouTube version here!

So as I’ve told you before Lindsey Graham famously said the HEROES Act, the new Democratic stimulus proposal, is dead on arrival in the Senate.

And I think a lot of publications have run with this and made it sound like Republicans are completely opposed to further stimulus. That is not true.

What Republicans are opposed to is a couple of things, number one, they’re opposed to new stimulus right now, at this very moment, because they want to wait and see how the country does as it “reopens,” and they are also opposed to the three-trillion-dollar HEROES Act that includes so many things that Republicans hate, like $10,000 student loan forgiveness, environmental justice grants, training for counselors for LGBT youth, extending the unemployment boosts under the CARES Act all the way into 2021, repealing the $10,000 state and local tax deduction cap, expanding the eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit, and dozens of other things that Republicans despise.

And to top it all off, the HEROES Act doesn’t have the things Republicans do want, like a payroll tax cut — in the HEROES Act there is an expansion of the payroll tax credit, the Employee Retention Credit, that was in the CARES Act, but it’s not really a “cut” which is what Trump was talking about — nor is there the massive liability protection for businesses that are reopening that McConnell has talked about.

This is why Lindsey Graham said this thing is dead on arrival in the Senate.

His sentiment is echoed in the House by Kevin McCarthy, who is of course the House Minority Leader, who called this thing a “Pelosi-led pipe dream,” and that was actually before the bill was released publicly.

And Kevin Brady from Texas, who is the top Republican in the House Ways and Means Committee called the HEROES Act a “recipe for a prolonged recession.”

He said “it leaves 30 million Americans who are jobless behind, while it is chock full of Democratic special interest.  Our top economic priority needs to be making sure the 30 million Americans who are temporarily jobless aren’t permanently jobless, and this bill does virtually nothing.”

He said that the bill in some ways “leaves our businesses uncompetitive with unemployment through 2021.  That means less workers will return to work, it means our economy will recover more slowly.”

Brady wants a “return to work bonus” that would give workers $1,200 in unemployment benefits if they go back to work.

Yes, $1,200 in unemployment benefits if they go back to work, I think there’s a better way of phrasing that, but you know what I mean.

Brady said he doesn’t support another round of direct payments, saying that the main focus should be getting people back to work.

So he doesn’t want the government to send $1,200 checks to everybody, he wants you to get an extra $1,200 if you go back to work.

And remember, this is exactly what I’ve been telling you this whole time, the Republicans would have to begrudgingly agree to another stimulus check, OK, it would be a concession for them, because they want people to go back to work, like I told you this past Saturday, Trump wants greatness, not a welfare state.

But, an anonymous Republican senator, and I think he wants to be anonymous here because he doesn’t want to break rank, right, he said that the Republican position right now of “pausing” and essentially waiting and seeing is viable right now, but he’s not sure how long that will last if unemployment persists much longer.

What he said basically echoes what I’ve been telling you constantly for the past few weeks on the channel, he said, “How long it” — and by it he means the Republicans’ wait and see approach, “how long it remains viable is determined by what is going on in the country, what the ‘getting back out, going back to work, getting out of our homes begins to look like.'”

He also said “unemployment numbers being what they are, I think there’s going to be an insistence that something additional happen.”

And of course by “something additional” this anonymous Republican senator is referring to another stimulus package.

This is pretty much textbook what I told you in the video I posted earlier today about unemployment.

Here is this Republican senator, under anonymity because he doesn’t want to look like a black sheep, saying, hey, GOP, maybe we can’t be so hard-nosed here, I know y’all want everybody to go back to work, but it’s not gonna happen just by snapping your fingers, and if there are literally tens of millions of Americans without work, even into Q3, what happens when that extra $600 FPUC runs out at the end of July?  As I told you in my last video, Democrats want to extend it until January 2021 and even March 2021 for certain individuals.

And there is actually a Republican senator, Rob Portman of Ohio, who reportedly may propose something whereby workers could keep a portion of their unemployment benefits if they go back to work, namely, a portion of the $600 weekly FPUC.

We know that Lindsey Graham has criticized this extra $600 a week, calling it a “perverse incentive” to not work.

But on the topic of unemployment, this morning, Jerome Powell, chair of the Fed, said that 40% of American households making less than $40,000 lost their job in March, that is a staggering figure, and he has called on Congress to not fear spending to save the country, Democrats have obviously heeded that call, we’ll see what Republicans do.

But more publicly, Republicans have left the door open to more relief for the people.

Senate Majority Whip John Thune of South Dakota said, “We’ve got a lot of members with good ideas.”

He said, “If and when there is another round and there’s a need to do something, we’ve solicited ideas — our office has — and there’s a lot of good stuff coming in the door, much of which is being vetted and thought about and discussed in terms of how it might be integrated to the next CARES Act or phase four.”

But he also reiterated the party line that we have to see how the currently-funded programs work.

And even McConnell has left the door open to more relief for the American people, he used the phrase “narrowly-targeted legislation,” he said, “We’re going to insist on doing narrowly targeted legislation if and when we do legislate again, and we may well.”

But of course, with this statement, McConnell is basically crapping all over the HEROES Act, which just objectively includes so many things, it is not narrowly-targeted at all.

But, I will leave you with this, some Republicans are actually pushing for measures that some might think had been proposed by a Democrat.

For example, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana has proposed a half-a-trillion-dollar “SMART Fund” to help state and local governments, hmm…isn’t that a Democratic goal?

So my point of this video is that Lindsey Graham, who said HEROES Act is dead on arrival in the Senate, that quote is making the rounds, and it’s true, Republicans are not going to go for the HEROES Act as written, Republicans when they feel like it are probably going to put together their own wish list, so it’s not all doom and gloom if you were hoping for more stimulus, and in the course of compromise, they may be OK with additional stimulus and/or additional unemployment and/or additional rent and mortgage assistance, you really just never know.  And before I go I wanted to let you know about a way that you can make a little bit of extra money, not going to get rich with this, but on my blog moneydoneright.com we recently put together a list of dozens of referral programs where you can make money for referring others, again, don’t expect to get rich, but I know literally every dollar counts right now, so check out that link below to the referral programs, and be sure to bookmark it because we’re always adding new money-making opportunities there, I think we’re actually going to add a few more referral programs to our list in the coming week, so check that out and keep your eyes peeled for my next video.
