This is my update for Saturday, January Ninth. In this video I am going to go over the actual bill that three Democratic lawmakers have drafted to impeach the president.
But first, let’s talk briefly about Twitter. Trump has been permanently banned from Twitter, as I’m sure you have heard. And after his realdonaldtrump account was banned, he posted a statement on the POTUS twitter, the official twitter for the President of the United States, statement says that Twitter employees have coordinated with the Democrats and the Radical Left in removing Trump’s account to silence him and his supporters, he used the occasion to criticize Section 230 and claims that he and his team I take it have been negotiating with various other sites and will have a big announcement soon while they, Trump and his people, also look at the possibilities of building out our own platform in the near future.
Trump says that we, meaning he and his supporters, will not be silenced and how Twitter is not about free speech, etc. etc. etc. So what is Trump’s next move?
We know that yesterday Google pulled Parler from its Google Play Store, Parler is a social media app that basically purports itself as the free speech social media app, something like a Twitter without censorship.
Yesterday morning Apple threatened to pull Parler as well from its App Store within twenty-four hours if Parler did not submit a “moderation improvement plan.” So what does Trump mean here, we have been negotiating with various other sites, and will have a big announcement soon, while we also look at the possibilities of building out our own platform in the near future.
Perhaps Trump’s greatest success in life has been his media endeavors, he made over two hundred million dollars from The Apprentice, didn’t lose money on that, that’s for sure, like he loses money on his golf courses, obviously owns real estate, but come on, that was handed to him on a silver platter.
Wouldn’t it be crazy if as a result of the insane division we’re seeing in this country right now we don’t only have two different political bases but two different economies, two different internets, two different phones, are we gonna have Trump phones with their own app store, I think that would be an incredibly ambitious undertaking, but look, we’re a divided nation, and when people get this extreme, and I think social media and the Internet have pushed people further to the extremes than they would have been without this technology, and when you have groups of people opposed to each other to this degree, as we’ve seen, it’s tough to coexist in any one space, be it geographical or digital.
Technology is obviously accelerating at a rapid pace, what does Trump have in mind here with his own platform, I don’t know, is this something like a Parler or something, he said he will make a big announcement soon.
Now let’s talk about impeachment. As you know and as we’ve talked about, Democrats are calling for Donald Trump to be impeached for a second time.
Nancy Pelosi said yesterday that the House would move to impeachment if Trump doesn’t leave office immediately. That said, Democratic leadership hasn’t yet schedule a vote on Trump’s impeachment, and the House is on recess until after Biden’s inauguration, so to do this, the House would have to end the recess early.
That said, Wall Street Journal is reporting that Democrats do plan to introduce articles of impeachment against Donald Trump on Monday according to two Democratic aides. More than one hundred and fifty House Democrats, this is over half the Democrats in the House, have signed on to the article of impeachment, we will go over the existing article of impeachment shortly in this video, it is important to note though that as of right now Nancy Pelosi hasn’t subscribed to this particular article of impeachment I’m going to show you.
Like I said yesterday, I do not think this will lead to a path of actually removing Trump from office, but since the article of impeachment is only four pages long, let’s take a look at it. “House Resolution Impeaching Donald John Trump, President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors,” that “high crimes and misdemeanors” is something of a technical term there from Section Four of Article Two of the U.S. Constitution.
Here’s Article Two of the Constitution, this Article basically describes the President and Vice President, who they are, what they do, how to be qualified, how long their term is, how they’re elected, and in the last and shortest section of Article Two, here, which is Section Four, it says, “The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.” So that’s the reason for this phrasing in the article of impeachment.
It says Mr. Cicilline submitted this resolution, yeah so this is written by Representatives David Cicilline of Rhode Island, Ted Lieu of California, and Jamie Raskin of Maryland.
Resolution, Impeaching Trump. This is all boilerplate language here for the rest of page one, and then here is the first charge: Incitement of Insurrection.
It says in his conduct of the office of President and in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and protect the Constitution, etc. etc. Trump engaged in high Crimes and Misdemeanors by willfully inciting violence against the Government of the United States, in that, what.
It says how on January 6 Congress got together in a joint session to count the Electoral College votes and how shortly before that session Trump told his supporters false claims such as, “We won this election, and we won it by a landslide.” The article of impeachment claims that he made statements that encouraged and foreseeably resulted in imminent lawless action at the Capitol.
Incited by President Trump, this article of impeachment says, a mob unlawfully breached the Capitol, injured law enforcement personnel, menaced Members of Congress and the Vice President, interfered with the Joint Session’s solemn constitutional duty to certify the election results, and engaged in violent, deadly, destructive, and seditious acts.
The article says that Trump’s actions on January 6 are consistent with his prior actions to obstruct the certification of the results of the 2020 presidential including, including his January 2 phone call with the Georgia Secretary of State in which he urged the Georgia Secretary of State to “find” enough votes to overturn the election results.
In all of this, the article continues, President Trump gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of government. It says he threatened the integrity of the democdratic system, interfered with the peaceful transition of power, and imperiled a coordinate branch of government.
He thereby betrayed his trust as President to the manifest injury of the people of the United States. Wherefore President Trump, by such conduct, has demonstrated that he will remain a threat to national security, democracy, and the Constitution if allowed to remain in office, and has acted in a manner grossly incompatible with self-governance and the rule of law.
President Trump thus warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States.
Pretty clear cut, it’s written in pretty straightforward language, the charge is that Trump did things, said things, made false claims, and in so doing incited violence against the United States.
If this is passed by the House, it would give Trump the dishonor of being impeached by the House of Representatives twice. Do you think the House will move forward with this article of impeachment or one or ones like it?
